Use of Amazonian oil seeds in the production of soaps

In 2014, a research project of the Program was approved to use the industrial processes of oil and fat extraction from oil seeds in the Amazon for the production of soaps, with the purpose of stimulating the formation of women for the career of Chemical Engineering and awakening the vocational interest of high school students by profession and scientific and technological research, focusing on the desirable connotation that awakens the qualities of investigative sense, entrepreneurship, decision making and responsibility regarding social and environmental issues. The project is currently underway.

 

Development of a water treatment system for riverine communities

Through a research project approved in 2015, the Program intends to develop a water treatment system for riverside communities in the Amazon region, using micro and ultrafiltration membranes with autonomous electrification through photovoltaic systems. The prototype would be low cost, easy operation and maintenance as well as sustainable by the use of activated charcoal adsorption modules from açaí stone. The expected result is the obtaining, after the treatment, of a free water of the microorganisms of water transport, providing the improvement of the sanitary conditions of the riverside populations.

 

Alternatives for sustainable development in the Amazon

The Program seeks to develop research to propose sustainable alternatives for regional integration and preservation of natural resources in the Amazon, through the study of political strategies, management models of mechanisms and instruments to support regional development.
